ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUZCO - MANU WILDLIFE LODGE.
We leave Cuzco at four in the morning. A day trip in our private bus is waiting for us. Due to the frequent stops the long journey is entertaining. At the colonial village Paucartombo we stop for breakfast. After we have reached an altitude of 3'900 m.a.s.l. we dive into the reserve of the Manu National Park. Here we start to explore the incredible variety of flora and fauna of the cloud forest. We will discover orchids, primitive ferns and medicinal plants. With a bit of luck we will see our national bird, the Cock of the Rock, the Woolly Monkey and the Capuchino Monkey. In addition we observe different kinds of parrots and macaws. In the afternoon we reach the boat harbour of Atalaya. Here we end our trip by car. Our adventure at the river Madre de Dios begins: We change into a typical motorboat, which brings us in 2.5 hours following the course of the river into our own wonderful Ecolodge "Manu Wildlife Lodge". During the river trip we again have time to observe the rich fauna and flora. In the lodge we spend the first night of our extraordinary jungle experience.

DAY 2: MANU WILDLIFE LODGE - CASA MATCHIGUENKA LODGE.
We leave the lodge very early and continue our journey downstream on the Alto Madre de Dios River to reach the Manu Reserved Zone on the Manu River.

Our first stop is a National Park checkpoint (Puesto de Vigilancia Limonal). Half way to Casa Matchiguenka Lodge we take our first short walk in the reserve zone.

During the boat trip we observe many different animal species like capybaras, peccaries, monkeys, many birds and caimans, with much luck even a jaguar. In the late afternoon we reach Casa Matchiguenka Lodge, where we spend the night. (Optional night walk there.)

Casa Matchiguenka Lodge is owned and run by two indigenous communities of the Matchiguenka tribe. This lodge has a rustic design with 12 double rooms and mosquito nets.

Around the lodge there are private hiking trails where Matchiguenka act as local guides.

DAY 3: MANU RESERVED ZONE "CASA MATCHIGUENKA LODGE".
In the morning we visit Cocha Salvador. From a catamaran we observe animals such as egrets and spider monkeys and admire the almost extinct giant otters hunting and eating the fish.

After lunch we start our excursion through the untouched jungle to Cocha Otorongo Lake, where there is a 20 m high observation tower. From this tower we have another chance to see giant otters and black caimans. For the rest of the day we explore the jungle and look for other monkey species.

The guide will also inform you about the jungle lifestyle, flora and fauna, medicinal plants and food in the jungle. We can also find a group of peccaries. In the evening we enjoy the beautiful sunset and return to Casa Matchiguenka Lodge.

DAY 4: MANU RESERVED ZONE - PAKITZA.
